Lyrics

Forgive Them Lord
(April 14, 2019)

Forgive them Lord for they know not what they’ve done
Forgive them Lord for they did not know Your Son
Forgive them Lord for the lie that they embraced
Forgive them Lord for they did not seek Your Face

I can’t help but wonder what might have been
If they’d learned to trust You way back then
How many siblings might I have had?
Perhaps a brother to help my dad?

Forgive them Lord for their blind eyes could not see
Forgive them Lord for serving Your enemy
Forgive them Lord for their selfishness and pride
Forgive them Lord for the sin they sought to hide

I can’t help but wonder what might have been
If they’d learned to love You way back then
I might have felt needed to serve in my home
I might not have wandered so confused and alone

Forgive them Lord for serving self instead of Christ
Forgive them Lord for seeking to save their lives
Forgive them Lord for the destruction and death it wrought
Forgive them Lord for they did what they were taught

Oh I can’t help but wonder what might have been
If they’d learned to serve You way back then
I might have valued who You made me to be
Created to nurture, secure with my identity
Forgive them Lord for they weren’t the only ones
Forgive them Lord all who rejected daughters and sons
Forgive them Lord for the soldiers they had slain
Forgive them Lord for the ground the enemy gained

Oh I can’t help but wonder what still can be
If we pray for repentance and cry for mercy
Then they’ll love what You love and hate what You hate
There’s still hope for an army; it’s not too late

Forgive them Lord
